PROBLEM: What do get the sister in law you barely know for her birthday? The frinedly nieghbor who takes in your mail and shares freshly baked cookies? A distant relative who you met 10 years ago is turning 50 or 60 so what do you bring to the birthday boy/girl?

Yes, we're going to "classify" that person so what we gift them is rewarded with appreciation. After all, what brings a smile to anyone's face? OOPS, i stated the obvious (but rarely discussed) "nature of all thing social" but that's what makes us feel good and gain insight! If you fancy a breed of dog, beware. You'll soon have a collection of objects featuring breed traits (if you are picky about parrots, cockatiles and cockatoos... beware. Most think anything with a beak is a parrot.) I've spent most of my life getting rid of mis-associated gifts. Yes i make jewelry, but unless you've made it, or the material is cool, why give me another pair of earrings? And why so many umbrellas and gloves? I don't collect them!

It was close to a decade before my in-laws and husband reallized i just wanted the tools to do what i love! One birthday they finally did a "group gift" i got fabulous west german wire-working tools! After 20 years, they're still great! Graphic software and devices soon followed. Now that i'm alone.. i do the of research before i choose a program/device/plan.
